Goodwood racecourse has a lovely new space to glide around and sup champagne in whilst watching the horses. The latest addition is designed by Hopkins Architects and is perfectly placed in the Richmond enclosure with amazing views over the racecourse and the Sussex Downs. It houses the Veuve Clicquot champagne and seafood bar and has wonderfully spacious decks reminiscent of a luxury liner.
Access is via two wide gentle swooping stairs either side of the bar and they provide a great entrance allowing space and time to sashay in your finery en route to the bubbles. Hopkins previous projects at Goodwood (the Parade ring, bars and ‘weighing in’ building ) are still looking fantastic after more than 15 years and the new champagne bar echoes the design with its light weight tensile structure and white canopies. A few photos here of the new bar and also the older spaces which really stand the test of time.
Being aesthetically driven I decided to put a bet on the most handsome looking horse who was visually most pleasing in the photos but needless to say I lost and should stick to image making as a way to earn a living, however it’s good fun and I highly recommend a day at the races. Upcoming events here in case you fancy a visit over the next couple of months.
